Urgent Memo from the Patriotic Millionaires
As UK Parliament breaks for the annual party conference recess, we’re circulating an Urgent Memo to politicians.
Patriotic Millionaires are asking politicians of all parties to back our calls on the government to;
Raise much-needed revenue now by reforming Capital Gains Tax, so that high returns to capital are taxed on the same basis as income from work.
Tackle wealth inequality in the long term by committing to a 2% wealth tax on assets over £10m during this Parliament - creating space, over time, to reduce reliance on taxing ordinary people.
“Working people have been struggling for years and public services are crumbling, while the richest get richer. It’s time to draw the line on extreme wealth and look to those with the most to start paying their fair share. I would be proud to pay a wealth tax and higher taxes on the income from my investments, to help build a better country for everyone - this is the patriotism our country so badly needs right now. ”
