UK millionaires more worried about doctors leaving than about other millionaires quitting Britain

New polling by Survation for Patriotic Millionaires UK shows millionaires are:

  • proud to live in the UK and ready to pay more tax to invest in what makes them proud

  • more concerned with doctors, young people and business owners moving abroad than they are about their fellow millionaires quitting the country

  • willing to pay more tax to create opportunities for young people

A new poll of UK millionaires has found they are far more concerned about doctors and other skilled professionals leaving the UK than wealthy individuals emigrating.

The poll, conducted by Survation for Patriotic Millionaires UK, also showed that 88% of millionaires are proud to live in the UK, with high levels of support among them for higher taxes on wealth.

Despite misleading reports of a millionaire exodus and claims that millionaires will leave if they are taxed more, three-quarters (75%) of UK millionaires say they would be willing to pay more tax in order to help protect and strengthen the social, cultural and economic foundations they value in Britain.

Almost half of UK millionaires polled (43%) are most concerned about doctors and other qualified health staff leaving the UK. They are also worried about young people (19%) and business owners leaving (19%) and are least concerned about other millionaires leaving the UK (9%).

Phil White, engineer and member of Patriotic Millionaires UK, said:

“Millionaires like us know how lucky we are to live in the UK and, as this polling shows, we are more than happy to invest in our country’s future.

“It’s also no surprise to see that millionaires value doctors, young people, and business owners more than other millionaires, because people like this are the backbone of our country—they are the real wealth creators.”

The majority of people working and living in the British economy have experienced decades of underinvestment in their communities and services, and barely any change in their wages. The cost of living is having a real impact on people across generations, geographies, and most of British society. But while the majority of people continue to suffer real hardship, wealth has become more concentrated among a small few with 40 families owning the same wealth as the bottom half of the country

When asked who should be picking up the pieces of the damaged economy, millionaires polled had a clear bias: 79% would be willing to pay higher taxes to create opportunities for young people in this country and 64% of UK millionaires believe that the government should increase taxes on the wealthiest in order to cut taxes - such as income, VAT, and National Insurance for small businesses and individuals - for everyone else. The economic fall-out of the war between the United States and Iran was also something that 61% of millionaires felt the very richest should be paying for.

While wealth inequality is increasingly recognised for playing a damaging role in UK society, tax changes are required to rebalance the economy. Patriotic Millionaires UK advocates for higher taxes on wealth to reduce inequality across the UK. This includes a 2% tax on wealth over £10 million to raise £24 billion a year, reforming and equalising Capital Gains Tax with Income Tax to raise £11.3 billion a year.

Tax changes such as these are widely supported by millionaires across the country with a majority (55%) supportive of taxing wealth the same as work and 59% supportive of the idea of a “settling-up fee” for people who build wealth in the UK, using its infrastructure and services to create personal wealth, before leaving the country.

The results of the poll suggest that wealthy individuals living in the UK remain both strongly attached to the country and its institutions, and would support paying more tax on their wealth. Phil added:

“Most UK millionaires said they are proud to live in the UK because of our nation’s culture and history, followed by pride in their family and friends, the UK’s creativity and innovation, and our great outdoors - but the reality is all of these things will be at risk unless we reduce inequality.

“The best way to do that, and to raise much-needed money for our country and public services, is to tax the super rich. Working people support raising taxes on the very richest, as do millionaires, and we urge the Government to support it too.”

The survey was conducted via Survation with a sample size of 501. The survey sampled UK millionaires with assets over £1 million excluding their home between 1st  April-15th April 2026. The sample size reflects the small section of society that has been targeted and is a sufficient sample for the size of this audience.
